About Steve

Steve Browne is a father, husband, retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army/Ohio National Guard & Middle School Assistant Principal. The Brownes are 19-year Gahanna residents & avid Bengals fans!  Steve is a member of the Gahanna Lions Club and a faithful supporter of the GLHS Athletics and Instrumental Music programs.  Additionally, Steve supports ASPCA.

Their daughters, Rachel & Regan, are Gahanna Lincoln High School grads. Rachel earned a Division 1 basketball scholarship & was a member of GLHS' 2015 State Champion track team. Regan was a varsity softball player & a 2022 class Valedictorian; she's now enrolled as a Scholars student at The Ohio State University, School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences. Steve & his wife of 32 years, Kim A. Browne, are also OSU grads.

Between deployments, Steve earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University. After leaving the military, Steve earned an Executive MBA from OSU's Fisher College of Business & an Administrator's License from the Ohio Department of Education.

During Steve's 31-year military career, he's amassed extensive senior management experience in administration, operations, human resources (i.e., recruitment & selection; training & development; benefits & compensation; employment laws & regulations), transportation management / logistics, & quality assurance. Additionally, he’s enjoyed stints as a Brigade Chief Human Resources Sergeant, Combat Engineer & Certified Facilitator.  Steve is a lifetime member of AMVETS and Gahanna VFW Post 4719.

Unlike the incumbent (who has less than 4 years of government work experience), in times of peace, chaos & war, Steve has been a proven performer on both foreign & domestic soil. Steve brings more than 35 years of relevant leadership experience honed at the federal, state & city levels of government. Some of the awards conferred upon Steve for his outstanding military service, include:

  • 4 Army Commendation medals (+ recognition for Operation Enduring Freedom & Operation Iraqi Freedom)

  • 3 Army Achievement medals (+ recognition for Hurricane Katrina & Rita Relief)

  • 5 Army Good Conduct medals

  • 4 Ohio Faithful Army Service Ribbons

  • Humanitarian Service medal

  • National Defense Service medal

Steve is a tireless community servant who's committed to improving the lives of his fellow citizens. More importantly, he has the education, government experience & commitment to be the Mayor that Gahanna desperately needs!
